I'm really surprised by how little knitting I've accomplished.
These tiny socks for a baby-to-be.

Cast on a pair of socks for Z.

And minor progress on the 10% toque. This is the first time I'm knitting from a chart and it seems I can't do that and talk at the same time. So... during our visit to see the whole fam-damnily over the last 10 days not much got done.

If anyone has tips for knitting from charts or ideas to on how motivate myself, now's the time.

Luckily our garden can compensate for my lack of production. The days of bounty.

One of the fun things we did on our trip was visit the zoo in Decatur, IL. Might be the best zoo on the planet. Small grounds, few attendees and very attentive train and carousel operators. Z wasn't wild about the goats in the petting zoo. Luckily I can still tote him cuz walking he was not. :-)

I haven't ever knit from a chart before. I'm not sure I'd like it either - there's something about plain knit & purling that is relaxing. I find when doing lace patterns (probably sim. to chart patterns) I get all focused and tense and if anyone tries to talk to me, I snap back. Can't lose my spot!!

The baby socks are really cute! It's summertime - you can be forgiven for not knitting but rather spending time with your family!

The veggies look fab! Is that rhubarb? (Mmm...pie...)

I too am averse to charts. I'm bad with the whole spatial-relationships thing, plus it's so much easier for me to memorize words. I just finished a big intarsia project of my own creation--using a chart--and it was definitely unfun...

I love charts but it took me a long time to get that way. I just started on smaller lace projects with short charts, and projects that were both written and charted to help me make the leap (knit 1 row written out, then next row charted.) Goodluck! =)
